What they are looking for
Asking this question may indicate that they are looking for somebody who can think for themselves and not be overly influenced by others.
It may also be asked when the interviewer is looking for an interesting and engaging character who is fun to have around.
The reverse can also be true: they may be looking for someone who fits in, and people who think of themselves as being too individualistic could be opposite from what is really sought.
How to answer
Do not just say 'yes' or 'no'. Use the opportunity to demonstrate your character. In most cases, it is useful to show yourself as being more than a boring and unimaginative person. Smile. Show that you find this an interesting question.
What an interesting question! I do think that it is important to have integrity and be yourself.
Depending on the situation, show also that 'being an individual' does not necessarily mean 'being different'.
We are all different and it is important that we each contribute what we can. Of course it is also important that we do this together and I do enjoy working in a team towards common goals.
