DescriptionWhen a family comes in, put the children first. Say 'hello' generally, briefly making eye contact with all of them, then spend a bit more time putting the younger children at ease. Spend time helping the kids decide what to eat, pointing out what is nice. Offer to bring sauces and whatever they like. Keep an eye on parents when taking the child's order in case they disapprove. If they make a face when the child talks about something try persuading the child that something else is nice. Watch particularly for this with drinks. Having games for the children to play, even paper and crayons can help keep them happy. Ask if they would like a game before bringing it. Be careful with babies and very young children. Bring extra napkins and expedite orders lest the children get fractious. DiscussionBy showing you care about the children, you will get more trust and response from the adults.
